The sentence against Sara Cherici
The Turin court sentenced Sara Cherici to 16 years in prison for moral complicity in the attempted murder of Mauro Glorioso, a 23-year-old university student.
The events occurred on January 21, 2023, when the girl was 19 years old. A group of 5 teenagers had thrown a bicycle from the Murazzi embankments in Turin, hitting Glorioso, who was left seriously disabled.

Cherici did not actually throw the bicycle, but he conceived the gesture. Hence the accusation of moral contest. When the incident happened, Cherici was elsewhere together with the other girl in the group.
The other sentences of the Murazzi trial
In addition to Sara Cherici, 4 other boys were present in the group accused of the attempted murder of Mauro Glorioso. Of these, 3 were minors and have all already been convicted.
Their sentences were much lower than those of Cherici precisely due to their minor age at the time of the attempted murder, a circumstance which reduces the sentences by a third. The two underage boys and the girl who was with Cherici when the bicycle was thrown, will have to serve time between 6 and 8 and a half years of imprisonment.
The sentence of the other adult in the group still remains pending. The Court of Cassation canceled the appeal process, which will be repeated at the end of January.
Reactions to the sentence
At the time of reading the sentence Sara Cherici fainted. The girl later regained consciousness but was unable to walk on her own. She was taken by ambulance to the Martini hospital for checks.
The prosecution, which had asked for 12 years of imprisonment, 4 less than those inflicted by the judging panel, was satisfied with the sentence. “It is a warning to those who think they can ruin other people’s lives for futile reasons” declared the Glorioso family.
Defense lawyers protested the sentence, calling it the disproportionate punishment especially in relation to that inflicted on Cherici’s friend, who was with her at the time the bicycle was thrown.
