SCANLAB has expanded the functional scope of its calculation application “SCANcalc”. The free app simplifies calculations for users when checking scan parameters for their individual requirements. As of 2017, the application can calculate the focal length and display the accuracy of various 2D scanning systems at the selected focal length. The new version of the application now also includes 3D systems.
This means that for those, the spot size and Rayleigh length can now be easily calculated at the touch of a button.
Choosing the optimal scanning system is based on basic factors such as laser power, need dynamiky and required accuracy. The technical specifications of the respective 2D or 3D scanning head must then be carefully matched with the required process parameters. 3D scanners are often used in additive manufacturing, for laser welding and other applications.
Updated version SCANcalc 1.40 including 3D scanners is available in iOS and Android versions in the regular app stores in German and English. The free app includes a “SCANpedia” glossary that explains technical terms, as well as a detailed help menu for calculation questions. Once the application is installed, it can be used at any time without an Internet connection.
