Challenges with Northvolt, then Scania plans to secure future battery deliveries elsewhere, in order to increase the production of electric vehicles.
Truck manufacturer Scania is in discussions with several battery manufacturers to secure supplies for its future electric vehicles, but remains behind its current partner Northvolt, despite their challenges. This is stated by Scania’s CEO Christian Levin in an interview with Reuters.
Electric vehicles are still less than 1 percent of Scania’s deliveries, but the ambition is to scale this up substantially in the future. According to Levin, talks are being held with other suppliers so that Scania itself will not be affected if Northvolt has problems. He also emphasizes that the company stands behind Northvolt in every way it can.
Volkswagen is Northvolt’s largest partner and the company is also an important shareholder with a share of 21 percent. The parties entered into a gigantic delivery agreement in 2021 worth many billions and which would extend over ten years.
