In this country, we need to spread awareness that people should decide on everything themselves, and not wait for others to decide, said Kristijan Šmit, whom the Republika Srpska does not recognize as a high representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He said that domestic authorities should take responsibility with the help of the international community.
– Sometimes I have the feeling that some politicians say “well, some of these foreigners do this and that without local participants”. I have been all over Europe in the last few weeks and I told them that the image that exists about Bosnia and Herzegovina is that of bickering and fighting. We must start inviting politicians to ask themselves daily “what have I done to create a better image of Bosnia and Herzegovina within the EU”? Some people do it well, but someone else ruins it. People are losing patience regarding the development of the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina – said Šmit.
When asked if he is “a high representative only for the FBiH or also for the RS”, Šmit said:
– For both and for Brčko. I will not give up being a high representative for both parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I was recently in Banja Luka, and I will go towards implementing all issues together. As for the electoral law, I did my part and everyone agreed with it, including in the RS”.
He also answered the question why he did not annul the Election Law of the RS.
– I have already canceled certain laws in Republika Srpska and I have already implemented certain things in the Criminal Code, but let’s be very clear. If there is any attempt to start on the path of segregation, dissolution, including something I sent in a letter to the chairman of the NSRS, Nenad Stevandic, if any law preparing the ground for separation and secession is conditional – I will then come to the scene – warned Šmit .
He was also asked whether Milorad Dodik, the president of the RS, has so far given enough reasons to be dismissed.
– If we listen to plans about secession, the establishment of an agency and similar activities within the NSRS, I clearly said that it would lead to a decision and I would cancel it all. Some new voices may be coming to the RS, I can’t say that for Dodik, but I see more and more that not everyone is saying “Mile said so and so, we have to do that” – answered Šmit.
He also recalled the visit of the CIA director, saying that it is very well known that he does not travel anywhere on vacation.
– Knowing what it is all about and who is a consultant for some people in Banja Luka, I am sure, like you, that the director of the CIA knows much more than all of us together. He has planned trips and I really wouldn’t underestimate the impact, that is, the consequences of that visit. We heard the next day that no one mentioned secession anymore. They started acting cooperatively in a way – said Schmidt.
