Schneider Electric introduces new solutions for smart grids

Schneider Electric, a leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, presented its latest innovations at Enlit 2024. Given the increasing pressure on the energy sector, this company offers complete smart solutions along the energy chain, with the aim of enabling companies to develop.

Recent agreements on the fight against climate change emphasize the urgency of modernizing the electricity grid with the aim of gradually eliminating fossil fuels and promoting the adoption of renewable energy. With around 40% of the grid older than 40 years, innovation is necessary so that energy systems can integrate new technologies and successfully meet future demands. The transition to digitally equipped networks encourages the integration of renewable energy sources and the management of increasing energy needs, with greater efficiency and reliability.

“It’s fascinating to see that all our customers are facing similar challenges, such as DERMS connectivity, managing severe weather, increasing demand for electric vehicle charging and the need to expand current grid capacity and functionality to support the energy transition.” . Many have begun to address these issues in different ways. With our modular software solutions united on one platform, we can help them implement a wide range of identified cases from practice by gradually upgrading their software solutions” – he emphasized on the occasion of these innovations. director of the Schneider Electric development center in Novi Sad, Dragoljub Damljanović.

Schneider Electric presented the following innovations at the Enlit Europe 2024 fair:

  • Improvements virtual transformer stations of Schneider Electric: as a member of the Edge for Smart Secondary Substation Systems (E4S) alliance, Schneider Electric presented the new technologies necessary to optimize the management of energy flows in smart grids. The PowerLogic T300 RTU is virtualized on the E4S hardware platform in order to simplify the design of transformer stations and improve operational capabilities.
  • Digital network solutions for a sustainable future: Schneider Electric continues to strengthen its network digitalization capabilities, including:
  • A net zero dashboard: Integrated with EcoStruxure ADMS and DERMS, the new Net Zero Sustainable Digital Grid Dashboard offers net zero metrics and KPIs to track grid decarbonization, helping utilities measure emissions and gain insights for building sustainability strategies.
  • Network flexibility: Electric utilities worldwide, including PG&E and Elektrilevi, are working with Schneider Electric to deploy EcoStruxure DERMS to manage the increasingly complex grid constraints of the rapid growth of distributed renewables. The European electricity distribution company Elektrilevi started with the proof-of-concept project and confirmed its own adoption criteria. It is now in the process of launching the entire project using Schneider Electric’s step-by-step approach.
  • Network endurance: Schneider Electric implements strategies based on the AiDash platform using satellite and AI technology to provide real-time insights and analytics, which helps utilities prepare for extreme weather conditions and strengthen grid resiliency.
  • Comprehensive monitoring of the LV network: deals with the complexities of integrating low-carbon technologies, effective planning, monitoring and operation of the low-voltage network.
  • Partnership with the company Unareti: the Italian distribution system operator (Distribution System Operator – DSO), Unareti, reduces costs and improves service delivery to its customers in Milan and Brescia by implementing Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure ADMS platform for advanced power distribution network management. This unified platform enables real-time management, critical tracking, analytics and data-driven decision making. Thanks to this project, Unareti significantly improved the efficiency of the existing infrastructure by integrating ADMS and the virtualization capabilities offered by PowerLogic T300, which enabled more data collected at the level of distribution transformer stations and thus further strengthened the operational excellence of Unareti. This solution was presented at the Enlit fair.
  • New shopping options: Schneider Electric introduces subscription packages in support of the digitalization of distribution network operators and thus gives users access to the latest functions immediately after their release.
  • Active Plus medium voltage switchgear with EcoCare: shown for the first time at the Enlit fair, Schneider Electric’s Active Plus medium voltage equipment, combined with membership in the new generation service plan, EcoCare, represents a strong foundation for achieving top performance and extended service life. Designed for remote monitoring and advanced analytics, this factory-connected equipment provides continuous monitoring to help spot problems at an early stage and adopt a condition-based maintenance approach.

“As we face the complexities of the energy transition, our focus is on offering comprehensive solutions that accelerate progress for all stakeholders in the energy value chain. Integrating smart networks and innovative digital technologies is of crucial importance for achieving a sustainable future. At the Enlit Europe 2024 fair, we confirm our commitment to this progress and invite energy leaders to cooperate in order to develop a flexible and sustainable environment that achieves maximum efficiency and applies low-carbon technologies. By investing in the grids of the future, we are harnessing the full potential of renewable energy sources and creating a cleaner, more reliable energy system,” said Frederik Godmel, executive vice president responsible for energy systems and services at Schneider Electric.
