Schneider Electric is increasing the production capacity of its largest data center factory in Europe
Schneider Electric, leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, has significantly increased the production capacity of its factory for ready-made data centers in Barcelona – from 7,000 m2 and 12.000 m2in response to increasing client demand for prefabricated modular data center solutions.
The factory and large logistics center is located in the city Sant Boi de Liobregat, in the province of Barcelonaas one of the main European locations for design, production and integration of the offer EcoStruxure modular data centers of Schneider Electric, now offers an additional 5,000 m2 specialized production space – and thus fulfills the increasing demands of clients for ready-made and integrated data center solutions, which are quickly implemented and upgraded.
Driven by customer demand for high-performance computing systems for processing large volumes of data and artificial intelligence (AI), which PWC Global estimates could increase the global economy by $15.7 trillion in 2030, the Sant Boi plant is now the largest manufacturing plant of ready-made modular data centers in Europe. Consulting company Omdia expects global sales of off-the-shelf modular data center systems to generate $8.6 billion in 2027.
In addition, this investment made it possible for Schneider Electric to double the total capacity of production, integration, testing and finished products to offer prefabricated modular data centers as well as for prefabricated power supply modules. These include key components such as three-phase uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), low-voltage (LV) and medium-voltage (LV) equipment, switches and switchgear.
“Off-the-shelf modular data centers are one of the most efficient and sustainable ways to design and deploy high-performance data centers quickly and at scale, with less waste, optimized production, and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production phases during the product’s lifetime.” , said Marc Garner, Senior Vice President of Reliable Power and Data Centers at Schneider Electric for Europe. “By expanding our total manufacturing capacity in Barcelona, we further strengthen our supply chain at a time of peak growth and enable customers in Europe to have access to fast, predictive and high-quality data center solutions that can be designed and up and running in as little as 24 weeks.”
Sustainable global supply chain, developed for AI and accelerated data processing
Schneider Electric recently entered into a multi-year agreement worth 3 billion dollars with the company Compass Datacentersone of Inc. magazine’s 5,000 fastest growing companies. Magazine, in order to integrate the supply chains of both organizations and produce ready-made modular data center solutions quickly, cost-effectively and on a large scale.
In direct response to the growing demand for artificial intelligence, this unique five-year agreement enables Schneider Electric and Compass Datacenters to offer highly adaptable modular data centers that feature simplified design and manufacturing and the ability to be deployed in a variety of remote environments.
Schneider Electric’s investment in the Sant Boi factory fully reflects this strategy and will enable European customers to expand their data center operations in the primary and secondary data center markets, as well as shorten delivery and commissioning times thanks to the best manufacturing capacity and testing in its class.
In addition, the factory in Sant Boi offers an extremely advanced production environment that allows organizations to choose standardized or customizable clusters of data centers with high-performance computing systems for processing large volumes of data, where solutions can be ready-made power modules or combine power, cooling and IT infrastructure into one improved ready solution.
