The initiative, which will reach schools and institutes, promotes familiarization and sensitivity towards artistic languages and incorporates cultural practice as a means of meeting educational challenges in learning processes.
Along the lines of similar initiatives that are already being carried out in countries such as France and Portugal, the program starts from the premise that artistic practices have the ability to link diverse knowledge and expertise and promote creativity, as well as approaching forms of expression of ideas and emotions through artistic languages. In this sense, the Catalan neuroscientist David Bueno affirms that the arts have an impact on the emotional factor, expression and human creativity. This is why their presence in the educational field is so important, especially in key moments of human development and growth.
Today, just over 20% of educational centers throughout Catalonia participate in some long-term artistic or cultural project in collaboration with organizations or cultural centers. The intention of the program is to increase this percentage in the coming years so that there is a greater number of participating projects and educational centers. For this reason, eleven professionals have already begun to establish the first contacts with the cultural and educational operators of the territories in order to detect the initiatives that are being carried out, as well as to assess the potential to promote new projects that promote artistic training and creative among children and young people from all over the country. These new initiatives will be progressively rolled out over the coming months.
The professionals who are part of the program operate throughout Catalonia: the Alt Pirineu and Aran, the Barcelonès, the Baix Llobregat, Central Catalonia, Girona, Lleida, the Maresme, the Vallès Oriental, the Penedès, Tarragona, the Terres de l ‘Ebre and the Western Vallès. These professionals, who are benchmarks in their territory, aim to facilitate the connection between culture and education professionals; use culture and the arts as tools and resources for transversal learning of curricular subjects; organize events for access to cultural initiatives available to schools; generate pedagogical resources available to teachers to promote the integration of artistic and cultural education in the teaching task; orient and adapt the projects promoted from the cultural facilities to the educational context; to expand the capacity of educational centers to act as spaces of access to culture for children and young people, and to promote artistic practices, in general, in schools and institutes.
The program, promoted by the Departments of Culture and Education and Vocational Training of the Generalitat de Catalunya, deploys one of the main axes of the Government in the cultural field, which is to guarantee cultural rights, and more specifically those that refer to the universal access to culture and the right to cultural participation. The fact that the educational environment is the space where these rights are promoted and put into practice ensures their generalization and practice among the new generations of the country’s citizens.
