Scuf Reflex Pro controller and other Black Ops 6 curiosities

We put the Scuf Reflex Pro game controller into action, and we also looked at the manufacturer’s other accessories.

The market for professional games, i.e. e-sports, is constantly growing, and peripheral manufacturers are also adapting to the trends. Thanks to this, more and more controllers are appearing that do not necessarily appeal to hobbyists, but rather to professional gamers with higher demands. These devices have special features such as programmable buttons on the back, adjustable triggers, interchangeable analog sticks or the use of exceptionally high-quality materials.

The Sony DualSense Edge controller for PlayStation 5 competes in this category, and the Elite series for Xboxes serves the needs, but of course other manufacturers also try to meet the more serious expectations: Scuf offers the Reflex series to players competing on the Sony platform. , of which we tried the Reflex Pro model.

But why do many people choose a controller instead of a keyboard and mouse? On the one hand, because this was the only option on consoles for a long time, so many people got used to it. On the other hand, there are games that also support PC peripherals on consoles, but this is not true for all competitive titles, there are also competitions where you can only start with controllers approved by the organizers, such as the Call of Duty Championship. Furthermore, it should not be forgotten that the majority of the consoles are connected to a TV, which can be watched from the sofa or an armchair, rather than from behind a desk: in Hungarian, the keyboard and mouse may not fit anywhere.

The history of Scuf Gaming began in 2011 with the goal of helping hobby and professional players get the most out of themselves. The company is credited with introducing extra buttons on the back, which first appeared on their controllers. Since then, Scuf’s products can be found in the toolbox of many professional e-sports players, especially in the competitions of titles such as Halo, Fortnite, Apex Legends or Call of Duty. Although Corsair acquired the company in 2019, Scuf continues to operate as an independent brand on the market.

The manufacturer’s product range is extremely wide and includes controllers for Xbox consoles, PC, PlayStation and even mobile phones. The Reflex Pro for Sony machines received for testing is shown in the pictures, in a particularly cheeky Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 edition. The Reflex series consists of three models: Reflex, Reflex Pro and Reflex FPS. The entry-level model, the Reflex, offers adaptive triggers and a haptic vibramotor like the DualSense controllers, and we also get replaceable analog sticks and four programmable buttons.

The Reflex Pro is actually a turbocharged version of the Reflex: it is distinguished from the basic model by its rubberized cover and several optional exteriors. FPS, on the other hand, differs from the previous two in many ways: on the one hand, instead of adaptive triggers, we get so-called “instant” triggers, which comes in handy for FPS games, which are also included in the name, because you have to travel a much shorter distance to sense, and therefore to shoot. It is also 20 grams lighter compared to the other two, as the vibration motors have been removed from the controller, thanks to which it promises an hour longer operating time.
