Seagate FireCuda 540 im Test

Seagate makes it clear in the product description that this NVMe SSD cannot be operated without a cooler. You should therefore definitely order a heat sink. We used the Dark Airflow to determine the relevant test data, but only added 30 euros to the price. Why? Because we strongly assume that an adequate cooler that prevents thermal throttling is available at this price. The freedom to choose the heat sink certainly requires a little bit of tinkering, but it is ultimately an advantage.

The maximum transfer rates of the Seagate FireCuda 540 do not come close to the top performance of the test winner and the runner-up. But if you look more closely at the partial results, you will see that they often reach similarly high values. And therein lies the reason why FireCuda 540 also received a very good rating with 870 points.

With its 2968 MB/s read rate, it would be ideal as a host drive for games, and the transfer rates of the 4K files certainly qualify it as a Windows disk. Photographers who are constantly moving a bunch of image files back and forth, editing them and saving various versions will certainly do better with the Crucial or the MSI.

Conclusion

With the Seagate FireCuda 540 you have the freedom to choose the cooler, but you have to order it too. The performance is very good, but it has nothing to do with absolute top transfer rates. But it is perfect as a gaming SSD.
