Costumed celebrities will be competing on ProSieben until shortly before Christmas. In the 11th season of “The Masked Singer” there are smaller innovations, more competition – and a kind of final boss.
The ProSieben show “The Masked Singer” is about music and you can actually imagine the concept of the show a bit like a song. First broadcast in June 2019, the show quickly became a summer hit. Soon afterwards it became a kind of evergreen – and for some time now it has been rearranged a little, but the basic melody remains.
On Saturday (November 23rd, 8:15 p.m., ProSieben and Joy’s) you will probably be able to watch this again, because then the next season starts – it is the eleventh. ProSieben has announced minor adjustments.
The focus is of course once again on the masks behind which celebrities hide who do not want to be exposed. This time there are, among other things, a panda with big eyes, a rhino in the look of a bouncer and a fire salamander. A snowman and a plush monster described by ProSieben as a “Christmas fanatic” will also appear on stage – this fits with the season’s broadcast date in the run-up to Christmas.
Opdenhövel promises celebrities from “every area”
Only a small circle of people in the know know who is under the costumes, including presenter Matthias Opdenhövel. In an interview with the German Press Agency, he promises that there will be someone from “every area” – for example from music, sports and acting. “From the very young to the stage-experienced and of course you know everyone immediately when the mask flies,” predicts Opdenhövel.

However, especially in front of the stage on which the masks appear, ProSieben is tweaking a few conceptual screws. This means that in the future there will not only be a competition between the celebrities – but also between the unmasked experts who are trying to unmask them in the advice team in the studio.
The structure looks like this: Moderator Palina Rojinski and singer Rea Garvey (back) puzzle over all six new episodes. However, they will be challenged by changing celebrity duos who will also try to reveal the true identities of the masked singers.
There had already been smaller innovations like this in previous seasons. In the tenth season, for example, a costume was introduced (“The Mystery”) in which a new celebrity was in every episode – a quick change that had not existed before. Among others, pop singer Vanessa Mai and entertainer Giovanni Zarrella slipped into the reusable mask.
According to Opdenhövel, “The Mystery” is now “taking a break”. “We always try to keep the show surprising with small changes,” he explains.

What is also unusual is that the show starts directly with a double episode: After Saturday evening, it continues on Sunday evening (November 24th, 8:15 p.m., ProSieben and Joyn).
The final is scheduled for December 21st. This – to stay with the metaphor – final chord of the season will have to do with a special competitor. At the same time, RTL is showing the first new Saturday evening show with Stefan Raab (“Stefan and Bully against someone Schnulli”), who was once a ProSieben face. A battle for quotas is inevitable. “The Masked Singer” may have to sharpen the tone for a short time.
