Season 12’s anthem, “Start Me Again,” is far from a classic

TELEVISION – Forget Music, I’m not a hero or At the end of my dreamss from last season. For the twelfth season of the Star AcademyTF1’s musical reality show shakes up the codes. This Friday, October 11, several media announce that the anthem selected for the season which will begin Saturday evening is far from being a classic of French variety.

Indeed, The Voice of the North et PureCharts indicates that it is one of the last songs of Santa, singer of Hyphen Hyphen, which was selected. Released just three months ago Start me again will be the song taken up in chorus by the class who will occupy the castle of Dammarie-les-Lys this year.

A decision which contrasts very sharply with the last two anthems chosen by the production of the show since its return to the air on TF1. Don’t leave without me by Celine Dion and At the end of my dreams by Jean-Jacques Goldman are indeed classics of the French-speaking repertoire. Nothing to do with Santa’s hit released in June, which nevertheless has 3.8 million views on YouTube and 21 million plays on Spotify.

The Nordic media also affirms that it is Start me again which will open the evening Saturday evening on TF1.

Break the codes

In the past, never has a recent piece relatively little known to the general public been designated as an anthem of the academicians of the Star Ac’. But if we look for logic in the choice of production, we must recognize that the eponymous title of Santa’s latest album is an assumed reference to the music of Céline Dion on the album Two. Whose song Don’t leave without me had been used to relaunch the show on TF1 in 2022.

Otherwise, the past French variety had very often served as a common song for the candidates: Nicoletta, Daniel Balavoine Michel Berger, Dalida, Michel Polnareff or Corneille… The only notable exceptions were the Anglo-Saxon hits La Bamba by Ritchie Valens, Country Church by George Harrison or the French version of Sing (Song) from the Carpenters.

Already invited last year to the Star Academy set, Santa sang her previous hit Salted popcorn with one of the candidates. There is no doubt that the singer who performed on stage at the Paralympics closing ceremony will inevitably stop by on Saturday evening to sing alongside the new candidates.
