Just a few weeks after signing with the Detroit Lions, the NFL season is probably already over for German defensive tackle David Bada. The 29-year-old was seriously injured in the preseason game against the New York Giants.
It was to be his second and possibly last chance in the NFL after David Bada had just recovered from a torn triceps and started training with the LionsOn Thursday he made his debut for the new team and ultimately had to be carted off the pitch. He had previously fallen to the ground without any outside influence in the second half.
According to head coach Dan Campbell, Bada injured his Achilles tendon and was unable to put weight on his leg. An official diagnosis is still pending, but there are strong indications that he has a tear that will end his season. Campbell admitted that the injury “could be significant.”
Until his injury, Bada was on the field for eleven snaps and collected one tackle.
Thinking about ending your career again?
Bada is part of the Lions’ roster as a designated player from the International Pathway Program and is therefore not part of the team’s 90-man roster. If he were to start the season healthy, he would at least be guaranteed a spot on the practice squad, where he would not count against the 16-player limit. However, a call-up to the 53-man roster would no longer be an exception.
Bada previously played for the Washington Commanders, for whom he played two games in 2022. In 2023, he injured his upper arm in training and missed the entire season. He was then released in the spring after the firing of head coach Ron Rivera, who was a supporter of Bada.
At the beginning of the year, Bada had an interview with “Stern” has already admitted that he has been thinking about ending his career: “Of course I’m thinking about it. I’ve only played two games in four years, which isn’t good.” Now he’s probably thinking about it again.
