Sebastian Vettel supports Mick Schumacher

Will Mick Schumacher soon secure a Formula 1 cockpit again?

Mick Schumacher has been waiting for another chance in the top flight of racing for two years. Michael Schumacher’s son is longing for a permanent place – and now has the backing of Sebastian Vettel!

What’s next for Mick Schumacher? From 2021 to 2023, the 25-year-old drove for the US racing team Haas, and is currently following the big motorsport spectacle from the sidelines as a Mercedes reserve driver. But Mick wants to attack on the track again, take part in races himself and drive for points. He is sure: I have what it takes to get a permanent place in a team! And his friend and Formula 1 icon Sebastian Vettel thinks so too!

“Of course I hope that Mick gets a second chance, because there is a lot that speaks in his favor. He has two years of experience as an F1 driver and has matured a lot as a person since then. He has gained valuable insights from the different teams and has stayed race-fit in the WEC,” Vettel tells RTL.

Sebastian Vettel: Mick Schumacher “would have deserved the seat”

“That’s a wealth of experience. In terms of speed and the overall package, there’s more to it than what some people want to remember. He proved in F3 and F2 that he’s capable of more. He could get the most out of a Williams, he would deserve the seat.”

Background: Mick is said to be a possible candidate for a cockpit at the traditional Williams team. The British motor team would like to replace its driver Logan Sargeant during the course of the season. Last weekend in Zandvoort, the American underlined his recent poor performance with an accident. His car ended up completely destroyed, but he himself was uninjured.

Bad luck for Sargeant, but perhaps good luck for Mick! A very imminent comeback for the German driver suddenly no longer seems so unlikely – and Vettel’s warm words certainly won’t do any harm either!
