The new HS boasts larger dimensions and a significantly improved PHEV (plug-in hybrid) system, enabling up to 121 kilometers of emissions-free driving.
The all-new, second-generation MG HS brings sharper styling, a more spacious cabin and an upgraded PHEV with serious electric range.
MG doesn’t state explicitly, but the second-generation HS is largely based on the third-generation Roewa RX5, which is already on sale in China. This is evident from the shared profile and body shape, along with similar light units. However, the MG HS differs with a unique front bumper that features a distinctive grille and sportier air intakes.
With a length of 4,655-4,670 mm and a width of 1,890 mm, the new MG HS is positioned between the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V in terms of size. Also, the wheelbase of the new generation has been extended by 45 mm compared to its predecessor, reaching 2,765 mm.
According to MG, the cabin of the new HS offers increased space with seating for five people and a trunk with a capacity of 507 liters. The instrument panel is equipped with two 12.3-inch displays, and the gearbox is located on the central console.
Depending on the trim level, standard features may include wireless charging, an eight-speaker audio system, a 360-degree camera and the MG Pilot ADAS package.
In terms of powertrain options, the MG HS is available in petrol and PHEV variants, although the latter has been significantly upgraded.
The electrified system combines a 1.5-liter engine that produces 142 hp with a more powerful electric motor that generates 209 hp. This configuration allows the MG HS to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. It is important to note that the larger battery of 24.7 kWh enables autonomy of up to 121 kilometers without the emission of harmful gases.
The base model is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that delivers 169 hp without any electrification, with a total of 275 Nm of torque. This engine can be mated to a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, driving the front wheels.
Prices in England start at £24,995 (around €29,500), while the PHEV version starts at £31,495 (around €37,200). Orders for the new SUV are already open in the UK, with first deliveries expected at the end of July.
