At the National Tax Service’s audit by the Planning and Finance Committee held at the National Assembly in Yeouido on the 16th, Rep. Park Soo-young of the People’s Power Party said, “(Secretary A)’s annual pre-tax lifetime income, collected without spending a single penny, is less than 400 million won.” “Is it possible to purchase (real estate) worth more than 2.5 billion won, and can this increase to hold property worth close to 8 billion won?”

Rep. Park then argued that the National Tax Service should conduct an investigation into fund disbursement. He said, “According to Article 45, Paragraph 1 of the Commercial Tax Act, if it is difficult to recognize that the property was acquired by one’s own efforts, it is presumed that the property was received as a gift and the source of funds must be investigated.”

He said, “As a result of requesting and receiving information about Mr. A’s income from the Gyeonggi Provincial Office and the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, the sum of all the money Mr. A received (while working) was 367 million won before tax.”

At the same time, Rep. Park said, “However, if you look at the houses owned by Mr. A, the Suwon Gwanggyo commercial house is 3.5 billion won, the Jamsil apartment is 2.85 billion won, the Jeongneung apartment is 825 million won, and the Bundang apartment is 745 million won, totaling 7.92 billion won.” “The purchase price is estimated to be around 2.5 billion won,” he said.

Kang Min-soo, head of the National Tax Service, responded, “Similar cases will be analyzed internally, regardless of who they are, and verified sequentially according to the actual tax benefits.”
