“A fire broke out on the tanker “Annika” on Friday morning,” reported the Maritime Emergency Management Center (Emergency command). The report indicates that the vessel contains approximately 640 tons of oil.
“All seven crew members were picked up and brought ashore,” the statement said.
The ship is located in the Mecklenburg Bay between the cities of Kühlungsborn and Warnemiunde.
Rescue boats began to extinguish the fire; additional rescue forces are being flown in by helicopters.
The German-flagged tanker, 73 m long and 12 m wide, has dropped anchor and is tied to a tug.
