The M55 is a project made on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Japanese company Mitsuoka, and it is a car that combines the design of the Dodge Challenger with the 11th generation Honda Civic. This attracted a sufficient number of interested parties, so Mitusoka confirmed even earlier that in 2025, the M55 will also be offered in a serial version.
Mitsuoka believes that it will not be able to build enough cars to meet demand because the conversion will take time since all the necessary changes will be made by hand.
Be that as it may, the delivery of 100 copies of the M55 Zero Edition is scheduled for 2025, at a price of 52,500 US dollars per piece. Orders will be accepted until January 19, 2025, and the lucky owners will be drawn by lottery.
The M55 otherwise draws inspiration from the 70s, the golden age of “Muscle cars”, where the transformation presented a unique challenge due to the 5-door body in the form of a donor car.
Mitsuoka’s designers therefore went all out by implementing extensive visual modifications to bring this project to life. In profile, the M55 unmistakably carries the genetic characteristics of its Honda Civic roots, as it retains the glass surfaces, chrome window frames, roofline and doors. However, to give it a touch of American style, the designers widened the front and rear overhangs by adding sportier alloy wheels with striking white lettering on the tires.
The front end stands out as the most compelling aspect. The four round headlights, grille, bumper and hood come together to mimic the signature Challenger styling. At the rear, the Civic’s fastback-style silhouette proved ideal for the addition of Mustang-style louvres above the rear window, along with an integrated spoiler. The modified rear end includes new lights and a new rear bumper.
The interior is largely the same as the donor car, with the exception of retro blue leather upholstery for the seats and Mitsuoka badges on the steering wheel.
Under the hood is Honda’s 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine with 134 kW/182 K and 240 Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive (versions with CVT transmission and hybrid drive may also appear later).
