Zenit head coach Sergei Semak reacted to the fact that team defender Douglas Santos was no longer considered a foreign player in the Russian Premier League (RPL).
“It’s his decision. Of course, if possible, it will help us somewhere; there will be fewer rearrangements or some kind of double substitutions, which are needed in the case of replacing one player with another. Therefore, this is a plus for us,” the website quotes Semak club.
Let us remind you that FIFA reviewed Zenit’s application and made a positive decision to change the player’s football citizenship.
On October 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree granting Russian citizenship to Santos. The Brazilian has been playing for the team from St. Petersburg since 2019.
It was previously reported that Zenit congratulated Santos on receiving a Russian passport.
