Actress Seol In-ah revealed that she has been suffering from insomnia for a long time.

On the 6th, the first episode of ‘Iron Girls’ was released on tvN’s official YouTube channel.

In the video, the contestants revealed why they decided to take on the challenge of a triathlon. Seol In-ah said, “I really can’t sleep. I took sleeping pills for about 5 years, and I got angry after taking them. I thought, ‘Why do I have to take sleeping pills and sleep?’”

Seol In-ah continued, “I wondered if I was less tired, so I stayed busier and worked my body harder,” and explained the reason for appearing on the show, saying, “I really wanted to use this opportunity to become healthy.”

He then surprised everyone by saying, “If I take sleeping pills, I can’t concentrate on filming. I tried quitting the medication last year. I stayed up all night for 3-4 days, but my immune system collapsed.” He also said, “I went to a university hospital and took 24 pills of skin medicine a day.”

Insomnia can occur due to stress and medication.

Insomnia, which has plagued Seol In-ah for a long time, refers to a condition in which it is difficult to fall asleep and even after falling asleep, it is difficult to stay asleep. Depending on the duration, it is divided into short-term insomnia, in which insomnia symptoms occur at least three times a week but less than three months, and chronic insomnia, which lasts more than three months.

The biggest cause of insomnia is stress. Taking certain medications can also cause insomnia. If you take medications for enlarged prostate, high blood pressure, steroids, or ADHD, you may experience sleep disturbance as a side effect.

If you have severe insomnia, you may want to consider taking sleeping pills. Prescription sleeping pills include triazolam and zolpidem. These drugs act directly on the central nervous system. However, they can cause side effects such as physical and psychological dependence, tolerance, and withdrawal symptoms.

Therefore, to avoid side effects, you must take it exactly as prescribed and use it for the shortest possible period of time. Sleeping pills are not a cure for insomnia and can become a habit if taken long term.

Foods rich in tryptophan and calcium and exercise that makes you sweat can help.

To improve insomnia, you should keep regular bedtimes and wake-up times. Avoid napping, and limit your naps to 15 minutes or less. Exercising to the point of sweating for 40 minutes during the day can help you sleep, but exercising right before bed can interfere with sleep. Excessive eating or drinking before bed is also not good.

There are also foods that help you sleep. To promote the secretion of melatonin, which is called the sleep hormone, it is good to supplement essential amino acids such as tryptophan and calcium. Tryptophan is abundant in milk, tuna, cheese, bananas, etc., and calcium is abundant in dairy products, fish eaten with the bones, and green and yellow vegetables.

On the other hand, caffeine, which is known as the main cause of insomnia, should be avoided at least from the afternoon. Alcohol is also a major sleep-disrupting food. After drinking, you may temporarily relieve tension and think you are sleeping well, but it actually interferes with deep sleep. It also suppresses the respiratory center of the brain, weakening the upper airway muscles and worsening sleep apnea, so it is best to avoid it before going to bed.
