Seoul Autonomous District has completed forming a public relations team for 2025.
Meanwhile, public relations managers from Seoul City are attracting attention by posting in Dongdaemun-gu and Yeongdeungpo-gu.
Kim Eun-kyung, head of the Dongdaemun-gu Public Relations Department, graduated from the Department of Business Administration at Korea University and joined the Seoul Metropolitan Government through a 7th level public recruitment, working as a digital cooperation team leader and then transferring to Dongdaemun-gu Public Relations Officer in August 2023. Afterwards, he played a major role as the head of the autonomous administration department last year, and was appointed as a public relations officer again this year. This proves that he is trusted by Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Lee Pil-hyung.
Kang Byeong-min, head of the Public Relations Media Department in Yeongdeungpo-gu, joined the Seoul Metropolitan Government through a Grade 9 open recruitment in 1999 and worked in the welfare office. He then transferred to Yeongdeungpo-gu last year and served as the head of the Streetscape Department for a year before being appointed as the head of the Public Relations Department. Although Manager Kang is not very knowledgeable about the local situation, he appears to have been recognized by District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon for his sincerity and was appointed as the head of the Public Relations Department.
There are also public relations managers from other autonomous districts.
Seo Hee-sook, head of the public relations department at Jongno-gu, is from Jung-gu and moved to Jongno in the 8th popular election, and has been recognized by Jongno-gu Mayor Jeong Moon-heon for demonstrating her skills by utilizing her experience in reporting and planning work during her time in Jung-gu.
On the other hand, in some autonomous districts in Seoul, there are cases where the head of the public relations department is replaced after only six months or a year, even though the person has worked in the area for his or her entire life, creating a contrast.
An official from an autonomous district said, “Most of the public relations managers are from the relevant region, but there are cases where talented people from Seoul or other autonomous districts are appointed,” adding, “This also has the aspect of increasing the efficiency of the organization by increasing tension in the public service community.”
