Serbian startups want to go to Mongolia – the market of the Far East has great potential for innovative companies

The largest number of startups in Serbia plans to export to the Asian market (63%). The specific country in whose market 44% of startups plan to enter is Mongolia, mostly due to the demand for their product or service in that country and the size of the market. Some innovators choose certain markets because of the lack of competition (31%) and because of the simplicity of administrative procedures (19%). This was said at the beginning of Global Entrepreneurship Week and Pop-up Export Huba in Niš, as part of the StarTech project.

State Secretary from the Ministry of Economy, Vladimir Arsenović, stated that due to its well-educated staff and geographical location, Serbia is the most attractive destination for investments in the region.

– Serbia is the most attractive investment destination in the region, which attracted 4.5 billion euros of foreign direct investments last year. As much as 60% of these investments for the entire Western Balkans poured into our country – said Arsenović and added that contacts with investors from the countries of the Far East can be of great importance, an opportunity to invite them to invest in our country.

The Mayor of Niš, Dragoslav Pavlović, assessed that Niš has become the engine of development in the region and that a large number of investors see a favorable business environment and strong support in that city. Jelena Preradović Stevanović from the company Philip Morris Serbia said that investing in innovation is very important and that it is especially important for large businesses to support small ones, as they have been doing for years.

Signing of the agreement

This week, Niš is the capital of innovative entrepreneurship in Serbia and throughout the region, pointed out Dušan Vasiljević, Director for Competitiveness and Investments at NALED.

– For many, the Far East is still shrouded in mystery. Many of those who have already conquered it are with us today and this week, and I believe that I will not be the only one who will absorb their experiences, as Europeans used to gather around Marco Polo to hear his stories – said Vasiljević.

Director of the Niš Science and Technology Park, Milan Ranđelović, announced that an agreement on cooperation with the Chinese High-Tech Zone Hangzhou was recently signed.

– With this document, we have strengthened mutual connection, communication and exchange for the sake of common progress. Using geopolitical and industrial advantages, they will cooperate with the aim of improving the digital economy, namely on concepts such as e-commerce, smart city, modern logistics, payment with smart mobile devices – explained Ranđelović

A Memorandum of Cooperation between the Science and Technology Park Niš and NALED was also signed at the event.

Recall, StarTech is a six-year project to support innovation and digital transformation of the economy, implemented by NALED in cooperation with the Government of Serbia, and financed by the Philip Morris company. The overall goal of the program is to accelerate the growth of Serbian companies and transform the traditional economy into a digital, export-oriented economy based on knowledge and innovation.
