Sergio Perez will remain a Red Bull driver until at least the end of the 2024 F1 season, ending weeks of speculation over his future.
A crucial meeting was held yesterday involving Red Bull boss Christian Horner and Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko. The two, with Red Bull’s position at the top of the F1 constructors’ championship under threat, were carefully considering their options.
The possibility of replacing Perez with Daniel Ricciardo or Liam Lawson was considered, but it was decided that it was appropriate for the Mexican to remain Verstappen’s teammate at least until the end of the season.
Perez has scored just 28 points in the last 8 races, putting Red Bull in serious danger in the constructors’ battle.
McLaren are just 42 points behind and are chasing the constructors’ championship, a title they have won since way back in 1998.
