A serious traffic accident occurred on Sunday afternoon (27/10) on the Lamia – Karpenisiou highway, at the height of Loutra Ypatis, when two vehicles collided shortly after 16:30.
According to the testimony of the 64-year-old driver of an agricultural vehicle, who was going down from Karpenisi (from the Pugakia area) to Lamia with his 58-year-old wife, a white vehicle suddenly started turning towards Karpenisi from the intersection, without controlling the traffic.
“By miracle we live! Luckily I hadn’t developed any speed. I tried to pull the vehicle to the left to avoid him, but I almost went off the road,” the 64-year-old driver told Lamia Report. His maneuver seems to have averted the worst, as the collision happened side-on and not on the side of the door of the 88-year-old driver of the white vehicle, thus reducing the risk of serious injuries.
The 88-year-old driver of the car was injured and was transported by EKAV ambulance to Lamia Hospital. The 58-year-old female passenger of the truck was taken to the same hospital, while the 64-year-old driver was slightly injured in the hand.
The traffic on the national highway was temporarily stopped, with the men of Lamia Traffic coordinating the traffic and undertaking the preliminary investigation into the causes of the accident. The Fire Department contributed to the cleaning of the roadway, allowing for the smooth restoration of traffic.
