“As of September 30, 2024, employment in the public administration sector stood at 746,502 jobs, marking an increase of 1.0% year-on-year and a drop of 0.4% compared to the previous quarter”, it states the Public Employment Statistical Summary (SIEP), prepared by the General Directorate of Administration and Public Employment (DGAEP).

According to the same document, “in annual terms, the increase of 7,428 jobs was distributed mainly between the central administration (+0.8%, corresponding to +4,302 jobs) and the local administration (+3.0%, corresponding to +4,302 jobs) corresponding to +4,062 jobs), in this case mainly resulting from the increase in municipal councils”.

Compared to the previous quarter, “employment in the public administration sector decreased by 3,213 jobs (-0.4%), with declines in all sectors, except local administration”, the note reads.

SIEP also indicated that, “in July 2024, the value of the average monthly base remuneration of full-time workers in the public administration sector was 1,763.4 euros, corresponding to an average global variation of +0.7%, in compared to April 2024, and an annual variation of +6.9%”.

This growth, he says, “is the result of the combination of several factors, such as: the entry and exit of workers with different remuneration levels, remuneration enhancement measures approved for workers in public functions” and the updating of the value of the minimum monthly remuneration for 820 euros and the value of the remuneration base (BRAP) to 821.83 euros.

According to SIEP, the “average monthly gain in public administrations is estimated, for July 2024, at 2,112.6 euros, corresponding to a quarterly variation of +1.6% and an annual variation of +8.0%”.
