Public beta available in the EU
The alternative app marketplace Setapp Mobile is now available for iOS users in the EU. With over 50 apps and a subscription model, Setapp offers an alternative way to discover and use apps.
Ukrainian company MacPaw has officially launched its alternative app marketplace Setapp Mobile for iPhone users in the European Union. This move comes as part of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which requires the opening of Apple’s iOS platform to third-party app stores. Setapp Mobile offers users a new way to discover and use apps, promising more convenience and flexibility.
Setapp Mobile: Alternative app marketplace for the iPhone
Setapp Mobile is an extension of the already established Setapp service, which has been available on the Mac for years. The new app marketplace is currently available as an open beta for all iOS users in the EU who have at least iOS 17.4 installed.
Access is via a web installer that is installed on the iPhone after several approval dialogs. Compared to previous models and competing products, Setapp Mobile offers some notable advantages. While traditional app stores such as the Apple App Store rely on individual purchases and in-app purchases, Setapp Mobile works with a subscription model.
Setapp Mobile: Beta supports over 50 apps
For a monthly fee of €9.49, users get access to all available apps and can use them without any restrictions. Currently, Setapp Mobile’s offering includes over 50 apps in various categories such as productivity, finance, creativity, and utilities. Notable apps include CleanMyPhone, ClearVPN, Riveo video editor, and MonAI.
Some of these apps are also available for free in the Apple App Store, but Setapp Mobile offers the advantage of bundling all apps into a single subscription. Another technical advantage of Setapp Mobile is the ease of managing and updating apps. Unlike traditional app stores, where users have to manually check for updates, Setapp Mobile manages updates automatically.
Monthly subscription from 9.49 euros
Setapp Mobile is currently only available to users in the European Union who have at least iOS 17.4 installed. The subscription costs €9.49 per month and includes a seven-day free trial. For users who use both Mac and iOS devices, there is an extended subscription available for €13 per month and covers up to four iOS devices.
