Gamers who prefer high pixel density in a slightly smaller screen have so far only been able to choose models with IPS panels, as OLED panels with 4k resolution have been limited to 32 inches or larger. But ahead of this year’s CES, three manufacturers have shown 27-inch screens with a new QD-OLED panel with both 4k resolution and 240 Hz refresh rate.
Samsung, which makes the new panel, uses it in the new Odyssey OLED G8 model G81SF. Asus has presented the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM and from MSI comes the MPG 272URX QD-OLED.
All three screens have the same panel and thus the same basic specifications: 27 inches, 3840 × 2160 pixels (166 per inch), 240 Hz, 99 percent DCI-P3 colors and 0.03 millisecond response time.
Samsung hasn’t released any more details about its model, but the Asus and MSI models both support Displayport 2.1 and are factory-calibrated to delta E below 2.0. They are Display HDR True Black 400 certified and have various functions to prevent burn-in. The Asus model, for example, has a sensor that switches to a completely black image when the user walks away from the computer.
TFT Central has already had time to test the screen from Asus, with detailed measurement results for brightness, colors, HDR, response time, motion blur and various other things.
