By purchasing a Range Rover, our reader thought that he would be considered by the brand in the event of a problem. He discovers that this is not the case.
Does Premium really rhyme with quality, reliability and service? This is not a philosophical subject, this is the question asked by our reader Eric, from Digny (28). At the beginning of this year, he acquired a Range Rover Evoque from the end of 2019. He only had 68,000 kilometers on the odometer.
An engine light after driving only 10,000 km
Before closing the transaction, Eric ensures that the background of this SUV is crystal clear. And they are. All services were carried out by a brand dealership and the only problem reported was the change of the EGR valve in 2023. The car had 60,000 km and the operation was taken care of by the manufacturer. But this summer, when he has only traveled 10,000 kilometers since purchasing his Range Rover Evoque, which is not much, Eric sees the engine light turn orange on the dashboard. He immediately went to a garage member of the Land Rover network to have his problem diagnosed.
After several examinations, the workshop manager is then the bearer of bad news. Indeed, the particle filter is cracked. There are no other alternatives than to carry out its replacement. For this operation, the professional then presents him with a quote of €3,656. Faced with this, Eric has the right reflex. Our reader demands that the dealer makes a request for support from the manufacturer Land Rover. The latter grants, without much hesitation, a participation of 43%. But for Eric, at 78,000 kilometers, this small gesture is largely insufficient.
Land Rover must cover 80% of Range Rover Evoque repairs
Our reader thinks he has the right to greater support from the brand. And he is right! Even more than for other elements, the longevity of a particle filter is linked to the use made of the car. However, our experts confirm that it should last, without difficulty, at least up to 150,000 kilometers. That is to say almost twice as long as in the case of Eric’s Range Rover Evoque. In addition, as this vehicle is less than 5 years old, it is not possible to apply a obsolescence rate to the amount of the coverage. At 78,000 kilometers, this must therefore increase to reach 80% of the total bill, or 2,924.8 euros of the 3,656 euros presented by the repair estimate. Thus, our reader must pay “only” 731.2 euros for his problem.
