Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones hasn’t spoken to Johnny Rotten since 2008

Guitarist Sex Pistols, Steve Jonesrevealed that he had not spoken to the band’s frontman Johnny Rotten since 2008, which practically closed the door to the possibility of a joint performance. Rotten, known as John Lydon, and Jones last performed together in 2008, with Paul Cook and Gene Matlock as part of the line-up.

Jones stated on the Rockonteurs podcast: “I haven’t spoken to him in years. The last time we talked was in 2008, when we did 30 concerts in Europe, including festivals, and performances in Japan and Australia. We finished the tour at the Hammersmith Apollo, and we had the last concert in the Basque Country and that was it. It was too much – too many years, too much effort, too little achieved.”

However, just because he doesn’t want to play with Lydon anymore doesn’t mean he’s lost his love for Lydon Sex Pistols as a band. This year, Jones, Cook and Matlock performed together as the Sex Pistols with Frank Carter on the mic. Their three-day residency at Bush Hall in London included a performance of their debut album in its entirety Never Mind The Bollocksand the proceeds benefited the city of West London.

Commenting on those performances, Jones said: “This is a very different thing. A different atmosphere. He’s not trying to be John. He got a lot better. He is much more relaxed now. We only had a week of rehearsals before the performance.”

Tensions between Lydon and other members of the group further increased last year, when a six-part TV series was released against Lydon’s wishes. Pistol.
