A court ruled that Park Jae-dong, a current affairs cartoonist who disclosed legal materials related to victims of sexual harassment cases without permission, must compensate the victims for damages.
On the 8th, the 34th Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Chang-mo) ruled in favor of a portion of the plaintiff, ordering Artist Park to pay 50 million won to the victim in a lawsuit for damages filed by cartoonist A against Artist Park.
The court said, “Artist Park shared litigation materials containing private conversations with Mr. B and had Mr. B disclose them on Facebook, or at least aided and abetted them so that they were leaked to many people,” adding, “Mr. A’s right to self-determination of personal information or privacy. “It was judged that it violated the confidentiality of and caused mental pain.” In addition, it was pointed out that “Artist Park has defamed Mr. A’s reputation by extracting some of the lawsuit materials and posting them as if the damage from Mr. A’s statement was false through writing that contradicts or distorts the overall purpose.”
Previously, SBS reported the sexual harassment and sexual harassment case of artist Park in 2018 based on a report by Mr. A. Artist Park filed a lawsuit requesting correction of information, claiming that Mr. A’s statement was false. Mr. A appeared as a witness in the lawsuit and testified, and while the trial was in progress, Artist Park shared the case’s legal materials with Mr. B. Afterwards, Mr. B shared Mr. A’s conversation content and call transcript on his SNS (social network service), and Artist Park and his acquaintances also posted the contents on SNS. Mr. A filed a claim for damages of 100 million won against Artist Park, claiming that he had caused secondary harm by disclosing the lawsuit materials without permission.
