Shami Kaiser and Tapas of Gun Bangla are on remand for 3 days

The court granted three-day remand to actress Shami Kaiser and Kaushik Hossain Tapas of private television channel Gun Bangla in a case of attempted murder during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifur Rahman gave this order after the hearing on Wednesday.

The investigating officer of the case, Uttara Purba police station SI Mruthanjoy Pandit applied for 7-day remand of the accused.

The police arrested Shami Kaiser from Uttara in the capital on the night of November 5. During the hearing, he was brought to the court from the police station.

On the other hand, Tapas was arrested on October 4 from Uttara in the capital. On that day he was sent to jail and the court fixed the date of remand hearing on Wednesday.

A victim named Ishtiaq Mahmood filed this attempt to murder case against Shami Kaiser and Tapas. The case was heard on October 29.

According to the case, during the anti-discrimination student movement, on July 18, a businessman named Ishtiaq Mahmud and others participated in the program. Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League attacked and opened fire in front of Azampur Nawab Habibullah High School under Uttara Purba Thana No. 4. Istiyaq was shot in the stomach. He was treated at Evercare Hospital. Later filed a case.

The leaders and activists of the party have been arrested since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5. Shami Kaiser was arrested in that sequence. He was a member of the Sub-Committee on Liberation War of Awami League. He is also the former president of E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (E-CAB), an organization of e-commerce companies in the country. Shami Kaiser resigned from e-cab on August 14.

The once popular actress became controversial by making various comments in the anti-discrimination student movement. Moreover, he was also accused of insulting the martyred President Ziaur Rahman, the founder of BNP. A defamation case of Tk 100 crore has been filed against Shami Kaiser on that allegation.

Mohammad Rezwan Kabir, the leader of the volunteer group, filed this case in the Magura Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on October 13. The court directed the Jhenaidah Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case.

There is a case against Shami Qaiser in the CMM court of Dhaka for trying to kill a BNP worker named Syed Hasan Mahmud. The victim himself filed this case on October 9. Apart from Shami Kaiser, 17 people including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, actress Tarana Halim, singer Mumtaz have been accused in the case.
