The Japan Gymnastics Association (JGA) has stripped the 19-year-old athlete of her nomination for the Paris Olympics after she breached the team’s code of conduct by smoking and drinking alcohol. American television ESPN reported about it.

JGA officials confirmed that Mijatová already left the Japanese gymnastics team on Thursday, which is preparing for the upcoming Olympic Games in Monaco.

“The women’s team will compete with four competitors instead of five,” JGA president Tadashi Fujita said at a press conference, adding: “We are very sorry that we were forced to take this step, but we have established rules.”

Mijata’s personal trainer Mucumi Harada said that while Mijata’s behavior was reckless, she was under extreme pressure to perform at her best. “She spent her days really under a lot of pressure. I would ask everyone to understand that,” he said, wiping away tears.

At the same time, before the outbreak of the case, Mijatová was one of Japan’s greatest medal hopes in gymnastics. She was also supposed to be the leader of the team that will try to win Japan’s first gold medal since the home Games in Tokyo in 1964 in France.

In sports gymnastics, there will be a fight for precious metals at the 2024 Olympics in Paris from July 27 to August 5.
