Jelena Ivanović, a member of the “Oplenac” Women’s Association, is currently actively raising goats, and we have to admit that she is doing it with enviable success. Srđan saw this for himself when, with the “Bolje zemlje” team, he verified the village of Krćevac near Topola, where Ivanovic lives with his lifelong companion – as well as goats, of course.
And what else is understood? Well, the fact that love brought this young entrepreneur from Belgrade to Krćevac, and her inquisitive and curious nature kept her and led her to breed goats. “At first, we didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into,” recalls our interlocutor. “I researched online, got all the necessary literature and learned as I went.” And by all accounts, she learned.
Quality goats give quality milk, from which quality cheese is made…
…while quality cheese, to continue the title, gives quality meals like gibanica. Yes, there is goat cheese gibanica, and it is so good that it won Ivanović a trophy. Of course, her cheeses are of various kinds – young, old, soft, hard, raw for grilling, etc. And it also produces whey that is devotedly drunk and that helps the consumer’s health.
Cheese production is not easy. Approximately 9 liters of milk are used for just 1 kilogram of cheese. Of course, everything is natural and everything is taken locally – the goats are taken out to graze, they eat without any additives, and the vegetables grown for their own needs follow that trend. In short, there is no chemistry and no danger.
Ivanovic has already developed a market for the products her goats provide. Namely, he mainly sells cheese to Belgrade customers, and the logistics are more or less resolved. And everyone trusted her, considering that they keep coming back for more. Ten goats were left for further work, i.e. for milking and kidding. And further work will continue to give positive results – Ivanovic is sure of that, and so is the “Bolje zemlje” team.
