She travels 2,000 km in 3 weeks because of an exemption!

A mother from Gard travelled 2,000 kilometres in three weeks to take her children to school, after school transport was refused due to an exemption.

A resident of Gard finds himself in a particularly difficult situation difficile since the back to school. His daughter of 9 ans is educated in Aveyron, but does not benefit from the school transport. Over the past three weeks, the mother has been forced to travel 2,000 kilometers to take his children to school.

A school transport system that excludes certain families

Contacted by our colleagues from France 3 RegionsAude Mohammedi-Merquiol explains that her problem is based on a exemptionThis is linked to the schooling of his children in the commune of La Cavalerielocated in Aveyron. However, the family lives in Gard, just 5 kilometers from the borderDespite the obvious geographical proximity, the Occitanie region refused to grant free transport for his daughter because of the exemption. This therefore creates a impasse administrative.

Aude cannot understand why her request for school transport was rejected. According to her, bus stops already exist and she did not even ask for the creation of new lines. For her eldest daughter, who attends the Larzac college, a late registration was accepted. However, free education was refused for the same reasons. The mother denounces a fault in the exemption system which penalizes families living near departmental borders.

For several weeks, Aude has been contacting the region as well as the transport services of Gard and Aveyron, but without success. She is always asked to be patientbut his patience is starting to show its limits.

A fight against a failing system

All this time, she continues to make the round trips between her town and her daughters’ school. She therefore accumulates kilometers with no solution in sight. The Occitanie region offers free school transport to all students in the region. You just have to respect a few conditions : live in Occitanie, be educated in a public establishment and live more than three kilometers from the school.

There are exceptions, but it blocks access to free education in Aude’s case. Quite simply, because her children are educated in a other departmenteven though he is still in the same region. According to her, it is absurd that children living so close to the border between two departments are penalized in this way.

Currently, the region studied still the file. Aude continues to travel hundreds of kilometers each week so that her children can go to school. In any case, this mother does not count don’t give up and hopes that the situation will be resolved quickly.
