Shock for the Saints: Carr will be out for weeks

In the 13:26 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Monday Night Game of Week 5 of the NFL, Derek Carr had to leave the field during the fourth quarter due to an injury to his oblique muscles. Now it is clear: the experienced quarterback will be out for weeks.

After the defeat at Arrowhead Stadium, the 33-year-old said he was “not feeling well”. According to Carr, he noticed the problem while trying to throw a pass. “It wasn’t that I was struggling with pain. I just couldn’t do what I wanted to do,” he said.

Now NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo report that the veteran “probably won’t return anytime soon.” It can therefore be assumed that the four-time Pro Bowler will not be available to the Saints for several weeks. He will therefore miss at least two games.

NFL: Will rookie Spencer Rattler replace injured Carr?

An appearance in the home game next Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7 p.m. live in Stream on RTL+*) is therefore excluded. According to NFL insiders, Carr himself is said to be pushing for a commitment. The Saints’ medical staff is said to have put a stop to this plan due to the severity of the injury.

A decision as to who will replace Carr, who is from California, in the coming weeks is apparently still pending. Backup Jake Haener was used against the Chiefs. Another alternative is available in rookie Spencer Rattler, who, according to Garafolo, is a “hot candidate” for the starting job.

Rattler made a pretty good impression in the preseason. The 24-year-old completed 20 of 38 passes for 202 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in his three appearances. Now the 150th pick of this year’s draft is about to make his debut in the regular season.
