Testimonies from Irini Mourtzoukou’s family and friends came to light on Friday evening, November 1. At the same time, she, who is considered a suspect for the death of five infants in Amaliada, ran into many contradictions in her statements.
The testimonies shown by the “Light in the Tunnel” were many and as it turned out, the 24-year-old Irini did not hesitate to show photos of dead children to her friends, but also to upload them on social media.

The lawyer of Irini’s godmother, who had also inexplicably lost her baby while she was looking after him, presented to the Patras prosecutor’s office some of the photos in question, which Irini had taken with her mobile phone. These documents depicted Katerina’s baby. One of the photos showed the child dead inside the house.
At the same time, a shock was caused by an audio document that was presented, in which a minor who was three years ago in a relationship with Irini can be heard. In the audio document, the girl can be heard calling 100 to ask for help and the other, who is said to be Irini, threatening her, shouting at her to hang up and hitting her. The show said that only a small clip was shown, as the sequel is even more shocking and all the footage was handed over to the authorities. “I don’t want to show the sequel because it’s wild, what follows is worse» said Angeliki Nikolouli characteristically.

The contradictions
Irini Murtzoukou was asked by the show “Light in the Tunnel” to give convincing answers to all the reasonable questions that have arisen, but in several cases she could not hide her embarrassment, often giving contradictory answers.
She claimed that she has been targeted and that what they are saying about her is a lie. She complained that at the hospital the police asked her friend and the child’s mother to jointly “set up” a statement about her sole responsibility for the death of Panagiotis.
Regarding the photo of the dead child, while she initially stated that she did not have it herself, she later said that someone probably sent it to her and accidentally leaked it on the internet.

“She lived poorly in her father’s house in Megara. He was a very difficult child. Her dad was an excellent man and father and even though he is not her biological father, he raised her as his own child,” a person from Irini’s close family told “Tunnel”.
“I know them from the inside, but I want the others to speak as well. As soon as I saw Irene on your show, I remembered everything. I remember Gogo, her sister, when she was a baby. We caught up with her because she would put a pillow over her face or her hand between her nose and mouth. We had told her parents to take her to a psychiatrist, to give her some help, but that never happened. He would have been about six years old then. We had already tested it too many times with her forgiving grandmother. We would leave her alone for a while to see what she would do and she would go straight to the baby. He would take the pillow and cover her with the intention of depriving her of oxygen. He did so without hesitation. When Gogo reached five years old, she stopped,” he says.
Irritated by the face of her family, Irene replied that his claims were not valid. “The pressure has risen on me, for her to come out now and say when I did the things she accuses me of,” she said and added that her parents had taken her to a psychologist.

The pictures of the dead babies
Another testimony was about the second infant, who went missing on October 17, 2023. “In a group chat they had sent a picture showing the child in the ambulance and they had put what is like a blanket over him. The tragic event happened on September 14, in the evening and the next day it was announced with this photo. It had been uploaded to a story by her friend at the time who was together, but also on TikTok and they were writing these messages that I have kept.”
“Then we said it could be something hereditary in the child. I also knew Irini and Popi and her own family, but we were not friends. After the death of Panagiotis, Irini had quarreled with Popi and her mother and had left for a while. This is what they themselves told me one day when I had met them on the street and they had told me even then that they too believed that Irini had put her hand in it…”, he concludes.
“Who photographed Panagiotakis dead?”
“Last night I was at home too. I had hugged him and we were playing. I had heard of vomiting but they didn’t tell me much more or I would have taken him straight to the doctor. In the morning when I left for work, everyone was sleeping normally. Later, my fiancee called me and told me that something had happened to the child. I left to go see what was going on. I saw the child who was waving his little hand a little. It took us three minutes to get to the hospital,” says the grandfather of the unfortunate infant.
As he mentioned on the show, he can’t blame anyone and all he cares about is finding out what happened to his grandson because he was healthy. “I can’t understand how it can be healthy one day and gone the next. Anyone who has done anything should be severely punished because we are talking about five children. What was the fault of the other children?” he says agitatedly.
When asked who photographed Panagiotakis dead in the coffin, he became agitated and demanded to know who dared to do this.
