“Should we expect a flood?”: in St. Petersburg, due to the wind, the water level in reservoirs is rising

The dam in the city is in readiness mode.

The weather in St. Petersburg has turned bad. Strong winds are blowing in the city due to the passage of an atmospheric front through the region, forecasters report.

As a result, water arrives from the Gulf of Finland, and the level in the city’s rivers and canals may rise in the coming hours.

“Roshydromet predicts a rise in water within +120 – +130 cm BS,” the press service of the Directorate of the Complex of Protective Structures (KZS) clarified. They are reassuring there that flooding does not threaten St. Petersburg, even despite the strong wind with gusts of up to 15–20 m/s, residents of St. Petersburg need not be afraid of flooding.

At the same time, the dam in St. Petersburg went into readiness mode due to the expected rise in water levels. “The complex of protective structures is in a state of readiness, personnel are on site,” the KZS emphasized.
