Signatures are being collected in Latvia to limit the activities of Twitter or X

The Manabalss platform has begun collecting signatures for restricting or banning the activities of the social network Twitter or X in Latvia.

The author of the initiative was Guido Oskars Gravawhich notes that foreign media has recently increasingly cited X’s role in spreading disinformation and lies, including the personal involvement of platform owner Elon Musk. According to Grava, Musk claims that the European Union “opposes freedom of speech and expression,” and such rhetoric is becoming characteristic of him.

Grava also points out that X has not adapted to the requirements of the Digital Services Act.

The author of the initiative calls on the Latvian society, the Seimas and the National Electronic Media Council to evaluate the compliance of “X” with the interests of Latvia, as well as its function as a social media.

According to Grava, given the current geopolitical situation in Europe, Latvia should take the initiative in implementing such restrictions.

«This would serve as an example for other EU countries“, he believes.

Grava emphasizes that society will gain a better and cleaner digital information environment by turning to other social and news platforms, where the flow of information is regulated and verified by people, rather than artificial intelligence, as is the case on X.

He also believes that X users should be encouraged to move to platforms such as Facebook and Discord, which he believes are better compliant with the Digital Services Act and serve the interests of the target audience.
