The Government of Serbia signed a contract on the urgent reconstruction of the railway infrastructure, financed from the funds of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in the amount of 50 million euros. This large project aims to improve and modernize around 200 kilometers of existing railways, which is double the annual average of railway reconstruction in Serbia.

There are 3,400 kilometers of railway in our country, and every year about 100 kilometers are reconstructed from domestic funds, while this time one contract will cover 200 kilometers.

The main objectives of the contract include increasing the safety and capacity of railways, the reconstruction of key railway stations and crossings, as well as improving the quality of life of residents near the railways. Rehabilitation will be focused on sections that are not included in large international projects, but are important for the functioning of the railway network.

The sections of railways that will be covered by this project are to the greatest extent those on which a large number of accidents, i.e. car slips, have been recorded, namely the Belgrade Shunting Stations “B” and “A” (Resnik and Rakovica), then Rasputnice “B”, ” K” and “K1” (Jajinci), section Jajinci-Mala Krsna-Velika Plana, Belgrade center-Pančevo-Vršac, as well as Resnik-Požega-Vrbnica-state border, but also Lapovo-Kraljevo, according to the website of the Ministry of Construction, traffic and infrastructure.

In addition to them, the project also includes sections Ruma-Šabac-Rasputnica Donja Borina-state border-(Zvornik Novi); Platičevo-Rasputnica “1”-Rasputnica “3”-Štitar; Smederevo-Mala Krsna, then Mala Krsna-Bor-Rasputnica”2″- Vražogrnac, but also sections Niš, Crveni Krst-Zaječar-Prahovo – state border; Pančevo-Zrenjanin-Kikinda; Subotica-Bogojevo-state border; Novi Sad-Odžaci-Bogojevo and Novi Sad, Sajlovo-Rimski Šančevi-Orlovat junction

The improvement of local railways is equally important to develop alongside international projects, because such projects are often crucial for the development of many municipalities in the country and the daily functioning of life in them.
