Signs of low magnesium levels –

A significant part of the magnesium present in the human body is found in the bones, teeth and inside the cells, and only 0.3% is in the serum. It is important to know that the laboratory determination of serum magnesium level does not faithfully reflect the body’s magnesium level and is only a weak indicator of a possible magnesium deficiency.

It can happen that the magnesium levels in the skeletal system and inside the cells are far below the expected value, i.e. the body is “crying out for magnesium”, while the serum level is still acceptable.

Assessing the need for magnesium supplementation is complicated by the fact that there are no specific symptoms of magnesium deficiency. Rather, it is characterized by the presence of general complaints that can even be confused with other deficiency states or diseases.

• In the absence of magnesium, a decrease in physical performance can be experienced, and even chronic fatigue syndrome may occur.
• In many cases, the consequences of the deficiency appear in the form of muscle spasms. During sports or sleep, a magnesium-deficient person may suddenly and unexpectedly experience a feeling as if an arrow had been shot into him, as a result of which the muscles of his leg spasm. In other cases, it takes the form of a decrease in muscle strength
lack of magnesium.
• Low levels of magnesium in the body can make migraine attacks more frequent.
• In the absence of magnesium, sugar metabolism may suffer.
• If the magnesium supply is inadequate, the risk of many cardiovascular diseases increases: high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, heart attacks and various heart rhythm disorders are more common. The situation can be aggravated by the fact that magnesium deficiency is often associated with potassium deficiency.
• A magnesium level that is lower than necessary is also sensed by the nervous system and can react to it with various symptoms. Decreased stress tolerance, more frequent occurrence of depression and psychoses, dizziness, and even compulsive movements of the limbs
gas can also be the consequence.
