American swimming queen Katie Ledecky still has to wait for her record gold.
One day after her dominant victory in the 1500 m freestyle, the 27-year-old had to settle for silver behind Australia with the USA’s 4×200 m relay at the Summer Games in Paris.
With the ninth gold medal, Ledecky would have equaled the Soviet gymnast Larissa Latynina, who achieved this feat between 1956 and 1964.
The German quartet, including 1500 m third-place finisher Isabel Gose, was already eliminated in the preliminary round.
Ledecky has her next chance on Saturday, when the record world champion goes into the final of the 800 m freestyle as the top favorite.
With her victory on Wednesday, she had already made sports history – as the first swimmer to win gold at four Olympic Games.
