Siri will become smarter, but only in 2026

Apple is developing a beefed-up version of Siri, dubbed internally “LLM Series”aiming to compete with more advanced chatbots like ChatGPT. According to a report by Bloombergthe new Siri will be based on advanced language models (Large Language Models) which promise to revolutionize interaction with the voice assistant.

This evolution of Siri will be able to support more natural and complex conversationsmaking the voice assistant much more similar to a human interlocutor. Apple aims to offer a Siri capable of managing complex requests and carrying out advanced tasks, which today still require the use of external solutions such as ChatGPTavailable on iOS 18.2.

An example? Siri will not only answer questions, but will be able to perform complex actions between apps, organize interconnected activities and even “understand” the context of an ongoing conversation. An important step, made possible thanks to the integration of Apple Intelligence technology introduced with iOS 18.

Apple will use two levels of artificial intelligence for this new version of Siri. A first model LLM it will be used to evaluate requests and decide whether Siri’s current structure is sufficient or whether a second, more advanced model is needed to solve more complex tasks.

Currently, Apple is testing this technology on iPhone, iPad and Mac through a dedicated app. However, the goal is to completely replace the current version of Siri within a few years.

According to several sources, Apple could unveil “LLM Siri” as early as 2025 during the usual WWDC, with the official launch scheduled for spring 2026. Although the roadmap seems well defined, it cannot be ruled out that the times may vary based on the results of the tests.
