The original Škoda Felicia was sold as a convertible in the late 1950s. However, when Škoda launched a new model of the same name in the 1990s, only a small number of owners enjoyed the open sky above their heads. The Czech company Metalex made only 39 copies of the Felicia Cabrio with a soft top. One of them is now for sale.

In the second half of the nineties, the company Metalex from Prague decided to solve the lack of a modern Felicia with a folding roof. This convertible was the spiritual successor of the “open” Škoda MTX Roadster based on the Favorito.

As he states Klix.bathe styling of the new convertible, based on the standard five-door hatchback, was created by Pavel Škarka from the design department at the University of Applied Arts in Prague.

However, cutting the factory tin roof off the Felicia required a lot of new reinforcements. The floor is reinforced with more massive thresholds, two new transverse beams have been installed, and a protective arch has been added between the front and rear seats for rollover protection.

The canvas roof consisted of three layers of material, and under the storage box there was a slightly smaller luggage compartment than in the Felicia hatchback.

The Felicia MTX Cabrio was produced between 1997 and 2000, and Metalex subsequently adapted the cabriolet to a facelift version. Only 39 units of the four-seat convertible were produced and today it is a sought-after collector’s item that you can pay a decent amount of money for. One copy is currently being sold in the Czech Republic, and it is the 27th model produced to order.

It is offered by the company Cabrio Gallery from Kralovéhrad and states that it is an original copy in the “factory” edition. The published photo of the technical license reveals that under the hood there is a 1.3-liter MPI gasoline engine with 68 hp, although the documentation states that some versions were also released with Volkswagen’s 1.6 gasoline engine with 75 hp.

However, you won’t get this rarity for nothing. The seller offers it for a whopping 900,000 Czech crowns, or about 36,000 euros. That’s more than a decent amount for Felicia, but the Czechs point out that it’s worth paying for great exclusivity.
