The Skoda Kamiq gets a little brother, it’s called the Kylaq. It is 24 centimeters shorter than the Kamiq and should therefore be much more accessible.
Unfortunately for the Europeans who want it, they won’t be able to buy it because it will only be sold in one country – India.
It sits on a cheaper variant of the MQB A0 platform found on the Kamiq and Fabia. Another big difference between the Kamiq and this new Kylaq: the newcomer is 24 centimeters shorter than the Kamiq and is just under 4 meters long.
Thus, Indian consumers will be eligible for tax rebates. About half of all cars sold in India are less than four meters long.
Kylaq – the small Czech-Indian bearing the Skoda logo
Worth noting: After the electric Skoda Elroq, this Kylaq is the second Skoda to adhere to the Modern Solid design language. While the Elroq is actually a shortened variant of the Enyaq, this Kylaq is drawn entirely according to this new design philosophy.
Developed exclusively for the Indian market, the small Czech-Indian is on sale with a 1.0 TSI (petrol) engine of 115 hp and 178 Nm of torque. It has three cylinders and can be mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
A sprint from zero to 100 km/h takes 10.5 seconds. Its maximum speed is 188 km/h.
The luggage space is remarkable – 446 liters, according to the manufacturer. Inside the Kylaq, we find a 10.1-inch infotainment screen and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster.
At an additional cost, the Skoda Kylaq is available with electrically adjustable front seats with ventilation function. It’s also worth noting that the model name of Skoda’s latest small car ends in -aq. Skoda normally keeps this suffix for its mid-size models (Enyaq, Kodiaq).
Its starting price in India is just the equivalent of 8,700 Euros.
