SK Telecom (CEO Yoo Young-sang) announced on the 10th that it will focus on managing mobile communication quality in order to provide stable services during this Chuseok holiday.
SKT will operate a special communication situation room from the 13th, when the Chuseok holiday season begins in earnest, to the 18th, the last day of the holiday, and will deploy an average of 1,300 specialized personnel from subsidiaries, affiliates, and partners nationwide to monitor communication services 24 hours a day.
Personnel from subsidiaries such as SKT, SK Broadband, SK O&S, and Home & Service, as well as affiliates such as SK Shields and T Map Mobility, are expected to establish an organic response system, and approximately 7,700 personnel will be deployed during the holiday.
SKT has completed the expansion of 5G and LTE base station capacity in train stations, bus terminals, airports, major tourist sites, accommodations, and downtown areas nationwide, where mobile traffic is expected to increase for this Chuseok holiday. It will also do its utmost to manage services such as Tmap and Adot, which are frequently used by customers on their way home or to their hometowns, as well as mobile communication quality in chronically congested sections of highways where localized data traffic is expected to increase.
SKT predicted that data traffic on the 17th, the day of Chuseok, would increase by about 15% compared to normal times, reaching its highest data usage during the entire holiday period, and completed preliminary quality checks and service optimization work.
SKT has also completed inspections of communication infrastructure in major sections of highways and national roads, cemeteries and parks, resorts, and campgrounds in preparation for the possibility of an increase in family movement during this holiday season.
Meanwhile, SKT will provide free video call service during the five-day holiday (September 14-18) to support its customers who check up on their family members via mobile phone.
International roaming used by overseas travelers is expected to increase by 10% during the Chuseok holiday period compared to the previous month, and we plan to provide smooth service through intensive management.
SKT will also focus on analyzing its network to be able to monitor and respond in real time to DDoS attacks and hacking attempts from a security perspective, and it will actively inform customers of the risk of smishing text messages pretending to be package arrivals during the holiday season and do its utmost to monitor them.
Sung Jin-soo, SKT Infrastructure Service CT manager, said, “This Chuseok, which falls during the golden holiday period that starts on the weekend and continues through the public holiday, we plan to do our best in service operation and communication quality management so that customers can have a comfortable and happy time.”
