On Sunday (July 21), the Slovak metropolis recorded a new audience record, a hundred thousand fans came to the airport in Vajnory for the concert of the Australian band AC/DC. They came to enjoy two and a quarter hours of honest Australian rock and roll.
Bratislava and Slovakia have never experienced such a rush of fans.
The Australian hard rock legend is performing on the European leg of the Power Up tour, named after their latest album Power Up from November 2020. The gates of the venue opened at noon and the first fans wanted to grab the best possible place in front of the stage.
We know the hits
The band started at exactly 9:00 p.m. and the concert was introduced by an impressive animated finale with a fast car coming to Bratislava from the European road to the airport. Right after that, the first song If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It) from the sixth album Highway to Hell from July 1979. After it, the hit Back in Black from the album of the same name, released in July 1980, the third Demon Fire from the latest, in order of seventeen of the Power Up album.
A total of 21 songs were performed in Vajnory, including Shot Down in Flames, Thunderstruck, Have a Drink on Me, Hells Bells, Shot in the Dark, Shoot to Thrill, Sin City, Rock ‘n’ Roll Train, High Voltage, You Shook Me All Night Long, which fans also know from the Czech cover version of the band Arakain. During the megahit Highway to Hell, the arena reacted already at the opening guitar riff, at the end of Whole Lotta Rosie and Let There Be Rock. The reward for the great atmosphere was an encore and two songs by TNT and For Those About to Rock.
There were fireworks
A stage of sufficient dimensions that allowed Angus to do his duck march, first performed by the American Chuck Berry in the 1950s, a back wall equipped with three screens, an area in front of the stage set in a semi-circle with six towers with a speaker system and a screen, top-notch sound and lighting effects, so that everyone could good to see and even better to hear. The end of the concert was enhanced by fireworks in honor of the band.
Half a century on the scene
The history of the group AC/DC is already 51 years old. It was founded by the Young brothers, the elder Malcolm and the younger Angus, in Sydney, Australia, in November 1973. They played their first concert on December 31, 1973 at the Checkers nightclub in Sydney. In February 1975 they released their debut Australian album High Voltage, released only at home and in New Zealand. In 1976, the group moved to England and in June they made their first British tour, a year later also in the United States.
Their albums Highway To Hell (1979) and Back In Black (1980) were successful. After the release of Highway to Hell, singer Bon Scott died in February 1980. He was replaced by Brian Johnson. The second big change was the departure of Malcolm Young in September 2014, he died of dementia in November 2017. His nephew Stevie Young took his place. They have seventeen studio albums to their credit, 21 songs in the English TOP 40 chart. In 2003, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
