“When we talk about the future, we must also take into account the new generation of people who will one day contribute to the creation of values in every society. To a large extent, it is necessary to underline that the children of Afghan refugees are one of the most tested groups in Iran. It is also for this reason that we decided, with the support of the political leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Minister Juraj Blanár, to support the activities of the independent organization Zandžireh Omid, which helps and cares for these children in the premises of its hospital,” Ambassador Ladislav Ballek said in his speech.
Since its existence in 2007, Zandjireh Omid has hospitalized 16,000 children in its hospital and also provides operations for children of Afghan refugees who come to Iran. Currently, there are approximately 5 million Afghan refugees in Iran, who have found refuge in this country out of fear for their lives and future.
The general director of the organization Zandžireh Omid Maryam Marashi thanked the Slovak Republic for this important gesture, which is a manifestation of not only good will, but especially interest in supporting and helping people, in this case children in need. “Thanks to SlovakAid’s humanitarian aid, we will be able to help other children in need and carry out any necessary operations to save the lives of Afghan refugee children,” said the general director, who also works closely with the embassies of France and the Vatican in Tehran.
