Slovakia introduces a code of ethics in scientific research: Responsibility, honesty, reliability in the first place – Human – Science and technology

The code of research integrity and ethics will guarantee the quality and credibility of scientific research. Its core principles include responsibility, honesty, reliability and respect. The aim is to strengthen scientific integrity through the application of the highest moral and professional standards from planning and implementation to the publication of results. The Slovak Rector’s Conference (SRK) reported on this on its website.

“The Code of Research Integrity and Ethics in Slovakia represents a binding framework for all researchers and institutions that carry out, finance, evaluate or support scientific and research activities,” explained SRK. According to her, Slovakia will be among the 16 countries of the European Union that have adopted a framework for basic ethical principles in the field of research and development at the national level.

According to the code, scientists and institutions must be fully responsible for the quality of research and compliance with ethical and professional standards. As SRK added, integrity in research should require transparent and truthful publication of data and results. According to her, a key principle is thoroughness and accuracy in research procedures or the correct use of financial and material resources. Likewise, respect for the rights and dignity of research participants, the public, and respect for the copyrights of colleagues.

Scientific and academic institutions as well as the public must follow the Code of Research Integrity and Ethics in Slovakia. By October 31 of this year, a national authority is to be established to control its compliance.
