This year’s Pohoda festival was hit by an extremely strong storm on July 12, during which one of the large tents collapsed. Several people were injured and the organizers decided to end the festival early.
“Now we are concentrating on dealing with the consequences of the event, we are staying at the Trenčín airport for many more days, during which we will be packing the prematurely ended Pohoda 2024. In the near future, we will inform you about the next steps, as well as the overall future of our festival. Now we send you all a big thank you.” they wrote shortly after the cancellation by the organizers.
Helping hand Pohode
The future of the festival is now a big question. Some Slovaks do not want to come to terms with the eventual end. Therefore, a public one was created collectionto which thousands of people have already contributed.
On Friday (July 19) in the afternoon, the amount from almost 4,000 donors already exceeded 123,000 euros!
The year that was supposed to help the festival
“Culture in Slovakia is generally bad. The pandemic and inflation did not favor culture, after it expensive bands became even more expensive, prices are also rising for supply services. Financial difficulties, although not tragic, did not escape Pohoda either. This year of the festival was supposed to be the one in which Pohoda herself would feel more at ease. It didn’t happen, the event was canceled by a storm. The organizers made one of the most difficult decisions – not to continue, but to end the festival early for the highest safety of all participants.” informed the initiators of the collection.
They have increased security over the years
This is not the first time Pohoda has been hit by devastating weather. In 2009, dozens of people were injured and two eventually succumbed to their injuries. Since then, the organizers have gone a long way to increase the safety of the participants. They changed the tent supplier, who also provides them for the legendary Glastonbury and Roskilde events. It also has meteorologists on site who warn visitors if necessary.
“Well-being in our space-time creates a safe, accepting and peaceful environment. For three days every year, it creates a space for free art, love, and reciprocity, which each one of us experiences at the airport every year, and which we so need in today’s uncertain times. Let’s give her back what she gives us so she can continue.” added the initiators of the collection.
