Slovenia, Ireland, Norway and Spain condemn Israel for banning UNRWA activities

In the joint statement shared by the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its social media account, it was stated that the governments of Slovenia, Ireland, Norway and Spain emphasized that UNRWA activities are “vital and important” for millions of Palestinians in the region and especially for the current situation in Gaza.

Pointing out that the draft law approved by the Knesset sets a serious precedent for the UN, the statement said, “Slovenia, Ireland, Norway and Spain will continue to work with donor and host countries to ensure the sustainability of UNRWA’s work and humanitarian role.” information was shared.

In the statement, it was noted that Slovenia, Ireland, Norway and Spain condemned the Israeli Parliament’s approval of the draft law that calls for the termination of UNRWA’s activities in Israel.

Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon also expressed her condemnation of the decision and stated that ending UNRWA activities was unacceptable.

Meanwhile, in the voting held in the Knesset, 92 Israeli MPs in the 120-seat parliament voted in favor of the bill banning UNRWA’s activities in Israel, while 10 MPs voted against it.

The Israeli army had killed 231 UNRWA employees in attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.
