Developing high-quality wearables takes a lot of time. A new platform that will work with Google should make it possible to bring these devices to market faster.
A smartwatch has long since ceased to be a gadget that tells you the time and your notifications. At a rapid pace, the smartwatch has become a device that monitors the wearer’s health. The Apple Watch, among others, has many integrations that can warn you of possible suffering. Wear OS also has such functionalities.
Platform
Creating a smartwatch with good high-end health functionalities requires a lot of skill and expertise. Advanced sensors need to be implemented with the corresponding algorithms. Since this is about the health of the wearer and you can’t joke about that, it also needs to be approved by the regulators and the government.
The company Fields goes a cooperation on with Google and Qualcomm to accelerate these developments within Wear OS. Masimo is a special company, because it has two completely different branches. On the one hand, it releases high-end audio brands such as Denon, Bowers & Wilkin and Marantz. On the other hand, it is a supplier of high-end technology to healthcare.
Also known from Apple quarrel
This last branch will build a platform with which the Google Wear OS the right tools to quickly develop high-quality smartwatches. These tools are high-quality (biometric) sensors, software and algorithms. Qualcomm will in turn ensure seamless cooperation with its processors that are made for wearables.
This isn’t just good news for Google’s own Pixel Watch, but for any company looking to use Wear OS on its wearable. Masimo is a trusted partner in this, having been doing this for decades technology delivers to American hospitals. You may also know Masimo from the patent dispute with Apple. Masimo has patents in the field of blood oxygen meters, which Apple allegedly infringes with its recent Apple Watches. In the US, Apple Watches are therefore still supplied without that function.
